Status: Completed 2006
The former Post Office Building is a Grade II Listed Building situated right at the centre of the Sunniside area of Sunderland. In June 2001, the City of Sunderland prepared an Area Regeneration Strategy which identified Sunniside as an appropriate area for regeneration. Conservation of the historic environment was a key objective for the overall Sunniside Regeneration Strategy and buildings such as the Post Office were to form a ‘string of pearls’ linking the area with the City Centre and encouraging re-investment and re-colonisation of this central area.
The old Post Office comprises two buildings; the main Post Office and the adjoining Sorting Office. For this project, IDPartnership carefully refurbished and renovated the main Post Office Building to provide 8 apartments.
