Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne
Client: Ian Darby Partnership
Status: Completed 1989
In 1989, Ian Darby Partnership purchased the redundant St Jude’s Church, Newcastle and converted it into new offices for the company, from which we still operate to this day. We designed the new mezzanine floor and ancillary accommodation for the offices to be ‘new’ but ‘reversible’. If subsequent owners of the building ever wish to return the Church to its original state, the new ‘interventions’ can be removed without compromising the historical integrity of the building. The completed scheme received a commendation in the Lord Mayors Design Awards of 1994.
