Arborfield Green

Location: Arborfield Garrison, Berkshire
Client: Crest Nicholson
Status: Ongoing

Project Description:
This project sought outline approval for a new ‘garden city’ of up to 2,000 new homes on the northern part of the Arborfield Garrison Strategic Development Location (SDL). Harnessing the site’s rich landscape and military heritage assets, the ambition is to create a high quality place with a distinctive character and a strong sense of community where sustainable lifestyles are encouraged.

The application, submitted in October 2014, also sought outline approval for a new district centre, new primary and secondary schools, and an abundance of new public open space, including SANGs (suitable alternative natural greenspace). The concept of creating walkable neighbourhoods, where residents have access to a range of local facilities and public transport, underpins the design. The masterplan has also been shaped by the desire to retain existing natural features including watercourses, woodland and trees, where feasible, respecting the setting of the historic buildings on the site, creating a ‘blue-green grid’ of landscaped corridors which incorporates SuDS (sustainable drainage systems).
