Heathfield House

Location: Low Fell, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear
Client: Vanton Developments
Status: Completed 2013

Project Description:
Heathfield House is a large Grade II listed mid-19th century villa in the Low Fell area of Gateshead which lies within the Saltwell Conservation Area. The property comprises four self-contained flats and one maisonette. The outbuildings within the grounds, including a stable block, are also listed.

It is one of several villas built on the strip of land between Durham Road and Saltwell Park. The building was converted into flats and houses in the early 20th century. Heathfield House needs a use which will provide it with a sustainable future. This presented an opportunity to retain the parts of the building that have the highest significance whilst removing the parts that have negative significance. The project involved the refurbishment of the flats and outbuildings and new build addition to Grade II listed building and traditional conservatory.
