Scotswood Energy Centre

Location: The Rise, Scotswood, Newcastle upon Tyne
Client: New Tyne West Development Company (Barratt, Keepmoat and Newcastle City Council)
Status: Completed 2014

Project Description:
The neighbourhood energy centre will provide Scotswood’s new community with heating and hot water. The innovative, gas fired system is expected to produce carbon emissions up to 35% less than those created by a conventional development and deliver significant energy cost savings for the residents.

The combined heat and power facility is located on the site of an old abattoir on Whitehouse Road. It will eventually supply all 1,800 homes at The Rise. Once the first homes are connected it will go live with E.ON operating the plant, which ensures all houses reach level 4 of the Government’s Code for Sustainable Homes.
