Project Description:

For Gainford Group, IDPartnership have prepared designs, and submitted a planning application for, the refurbishment and alteration of a vacant hotel building dating from the 1970s.

The proposals involve introducing glazed curtain walling and stone cladding, a new-build extension, internal alterations, a new rooftop sky bar and demolition of an adjoining office building over Market Street.

On a complex site in a strategic city centre location, key design moves were made to open the city centre up to the eastern urban areas. This is proposed to be achieved by the demolition of a currently vacant and dilapidated building that current acts as a barrier to the urban core. The removal of this will create a strong visual connection. In addition re routing pedestrian linkages will provide an at grade route to the city centre, and remove unused ‘street in the sky’ that currently attracts anti social behavior.

The upgrading of facade treatments, and re-organisation of spaces within the existing hotel will allow for a more attractive ‘shop window’ to the property.

The development will provide 180 bedrooms, a new health and fitness suite, a restaurant and bar, as well as a function room for 250 people.
